The Most Rev. John Bonaventure Kwofie, CSSp, Metropolitan Archbishop of Accra, has  paid a pastoral visit to the St. Catherine Catholic Church at Burma Camp during which he administered the Sacrament of Confirmation to 72 candidates.

Rev. Fr. Col. Francis Agyemang, Parish Priest, presented the candidates to the Archbishop who assessed them on what they had learnt during their spiritual preparation.

The Archbishop thanked everyone who played a role in guiding the young people in the ways of the Catholic Church and helping them understand the teachings of Christ.

He advised the confirmandi to keep their faith strong and were encouraged to continue living good Christian lives that reflect the values of the Church.

Focusing his homily on the core mission of the Church, which is to bring people closer to God, the Archbishop encouraged the Parishioners to be disciples of Christ and to love one another.

He said “Whatever the Church is doing, it is for the salvation of souls.”

He explained that every Christian has a special role to play in this mission,“We are sent on a mission… We are encouraged to do something for God.”

He, therefore, urged Christians to live their lives in a way that reflects their faith.

He further added that God created us for a purpose, that is to know Him, love Him and to worship Him and in whatever we do and also to do something beautiful for God.

The Chief Shepherd of Accra Archdiocese encouraged the faithful not to lose hope during difficult times, saying, “Do not give up… Stay strong in your faith. It is necessary to undergo hardship in order to attain the Kingdom of God.”

He explained that challenges were part of the Christian journey and that as disciples of Christ, “We should be ready to put on the armour of Christ, just as soldiers, we should be ready to march to war to defend our faith.”

He also spoke about the importance of love, touching on Christ’s love for His children which lead to his sacrifice for the sins of the world.

He encouraged the congregation to love one another just as Jesus loves the Church, emphasizing that love is the heart of the Christian life and it brings people together in unity.

The leadership of the various societies, led by the Parish Pastoral Council Chair of St. Catherine Catholic Church made presentations to the Archbishop as a means of appreciating his guidance, leadership and presence.

Rev. Fr. Sub. Lt. Sebastian Enyonam Dorgbetor, the Assistant Priest, acknowledged everyone present for their participation and acknowledged the Archbishop for his presence.
