Must read

The Youth of Our Lady of Assumption (OLA) Catholic Church at New Achimota and its three Outstations have donated food items and cash to the Weija Leprosarium in Accra as part of its yearly charity activities.

The items donated last Month include soft drinks, bags of Rice, provisions, cooking oil, mineral water, toiletries, rubbing alcohol, Sanitizer, detergents, Nose masks, and a cash donation of GHc1,000.00.

About 35 youth represented the OLA Parish; Immaculate Heart of Mary, Chantan; St. Daniel Comboni at Tantra Hills and St. Cecilia, Ofankor North led by Master Joseph Obu Jnr, Chairman of the OLA Parish Youth Council.

Making the presentation, Master Obu explained the motive behind the gesture, saying that the Youth Councils of OLA and the three Outstations as a Parish decided to reach out to cured lepers at the Leprosarium as a gesture of the youth’s love for the sick.

He added that the Councils chose Weija Leprosarium for the donation because of the need to support the work of the Lepers Aid Committee chaired by Fr. Andrew Campbell, SVD, who was doing marvelously well in championing the cause of lepers in the country.

Receiving the items on behalf of the Leprosarium was Mr. George Quansah, the director of the Weija Leprosarium, who expressed appreciation to the youth for their thoughtfulness.

He appealed to societies, other organisations and individuals for more support for the leprosarium.
The Director took the youth around the facilities of the Leprosarium and briefed them on its operation.

Meanwhile, the youth of OLA and three Outstations participated in a spiritual programme dubbed: “ Praise and Worship” during which there were Rosary, Prayer Sessions, Exhortations, Novena Prayers, Praise and Worship and concluded with the Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament led by Rev. Fr. Charles Macharia, MCCJ, the Youth Chaplain.

Held at the OLA Parish, it was attended by youth from OLA and the Outstations, adult parishioners and the Priest in Charge, Rev. Fr. Godwin Kornu, MCCJ.
As part of the programme, the youth in ministration and prayer sessions thrilled the faithful with the outpour of the Holy Spirit.

In a remark, Fr. Kornu encouraged the youth to make good use of their God-given talents and commended the leadership of the youth for organizing the programme.
