Afram Plains: Maame Krobo St. Joseph School Organises Career Day

Must read

The St. Joseph School of the St. Joseph the Worker Parish, Maame Krobo in the Donkorkrom Apostolic Vicariate, recently held the 2026 edition of the School’s Career Day Celebration on the theme “Together, let us Protect the Environment”.

In his welcome address, Rev. Fr. Saviour Darkey, the Local Manager of the school, who also doubles as the Priest-in-Charge of St. Joseph the Worker Parish, Maame Krobo, indicated that the Career Day has become one of the traditional annual celebrations of the school, including African Costume Day, Carols Night, and Graduation. The school aims to train the children to be God-fearing, disciplined citizens and to prepare them for a better future. Career Day, as one of the means of achieving these goals, is intended to inspire students to work hard to pursue the profession they intend to pursue in the future.

In his address, Hon. Moses Tangme, the District Chief Executive for Kwahu Afram Plains South and chairman of the occasion, thanked the Catholic Church for establishing the school, which provides greater access to education in Maame Krobo and its environs.

He entreated the parents to invest in the education of their children, since that is the best gift they can offer them. He bemoaned situations where parents and guardians spend much of their money on funerals and other ventures without caring much about the education of their wards. The DCE indicated that the children are the cocoa of their parents in this part of the country. Just as you have to take good care of cocoa before it grows well, in the same vein, they have to take proper care of their children before they can become assets to them and the nation as a whole. Each child has a potential, hence this must be nurtured for it to mature in the future.

Again, he entreated the parents to provide all the necessary materials that the children will need for effective learning. On behalf of the government, he promised to help improve the educational infrastructure in the area. But this, he said, cannot be achieved without collective efforts from all stakeholders, especially the parents.

He used the opportunity to express his gratitude to all parents and guardians for the enormous sacrifices for their wards. As a native of the place, who knows and has experienced the hardship of the area, he will do his best as the District Chief Executive to better the lives of his people through education. Finally, he made a donation of cash to the school.

On his part, ASP Raymond Tetteh, the Police Commander for the Maame Krobo Police Unit, encouraged the children to take their learning seriously, as well as the Career Day Celebration, since it inspires them to explore future possibilities.

Planting of trees should be one of the key things the school should always embark on in order to train the children in such a manner. Human beings survive through the oxygen produced by trees, meaning our very lives depend on the survival of vegetation. Therefore, it is an injunction of humanity to protect the vegetation and the environment.

He also encouraged the teaching staff as well as parents to organize clean-up drives regularly in order to instil this discipline in their children.

The professions that were exhibited during the Career Day included police, military, law, football, medicine, nursing, navy, teaching, and the priesthood.

Also present at the ceremony were Mr. Nicholas Dogbe, District Environmental Health Officer, Mrs. Georgina Tengbom, NDC Constituency Women Organizer, and Miss Janet Kissi, the Secretary to the District Chief Executive.

There was also a presentation of certificates to students who excelled during the Inter-school Sports Competition and the District Quiz Competition as well. The school came in third position during the District Quiz Competition.

Rev. Fr. Saviour Darkey, in his closing remarks, reminded parents of their duty to take good care of their wards as they come home for vacation. Making sure they continue to learn while in the house, and not only indulging in watching television.
