Assemblies of God Church Urged to Keep Great Commission at Heart After World Congress in Accra

Must read

The President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E John Dramani Mahama has urged members of the Assemblies of God to remain committed to the Great Commission, saying the church must continue spreading the Gospel and making disciples of all nations.

Addressing delegates at the closing ceremony of the World Assemblies of God Congress in Accra on Friday, October 16, 2026, President Mahama said the commission given by Jesus Christ remained central to the Christian faith.

“The most important one is our theme, the Great Commission,” he said.

He referred to Matthew 28:18–20, which records Jesus’ instruction to His disciples to make disciples of all nations, and reminded Christians that the mission came with the assurance of Christ’s presence.

“And so for all the pastors and the brethren, the members of our congregation, the people of our organization and all that, we are fulfilling the Great Commission that Jesus Christ gave us,” he said.

President Mahama urged church members to continue evangelising and bringing people to Christ, using the opportunities available to them today.

He also called on Christians to follow the example of Jesus Christ in their daily lives.

“He was compassionate, he was humble, he was not greedy, he was not selfish, he did not hate,” the President said.

He challenged believers to demonstrate these qualities in their relationships and service to others.

The President further urged the church to mentor young people, encourage women and show greater compassion towards persons with disabilities.

He said the lessons of the congress should inspire continued commitment to evangelism, church planting and Christian living beyond the closing ceremony.

President Mahama also invited international delegates to return to Ghana in 2031 for the Assemblies of God’s centenary celebration, announcing plans for a proposed centenary village to host major religious gatherings.

He encouraged the church to begin preparing for the milestone, reminding delegates that the anniversary was only five years away.
