The Headmaster of St. Thomas Aquinas Senior High School, Rev. Fr. George Obeng Appah, has decried the poor state of infrastructure at the 75-year-old school, revealing that the school has no assembly hall large enough to host its own anniversary launch.
Speaking at the launch of the 75th Anniversary celebration at a borrowed hall, Fr. Appah said the situation is more than an inconvenience.
“If Aquinas were a human being, at 75 she would be a mother and grandmother with thousands of children and grandchildren. Would we not expect her to have a home large enough to gather her children?… Yet today, as we mark this very important milestone, we are here in a borrowed hall,” he lamented.

Under the theme, “75 Years of Excellent Catholic Education: Shaping Future Leaders through Integrity and Discipline,” the Headmaster said the physical environment of the school located in the heart of Cantonments has not kept pace with its academic reputation and the rapid development around it.
“The environment in which a child learns communicates something. A clean classroom communicates something… The physical environment tells our students, in ways words cannot always express, whether we value what happens in Aquinas,” he stressed.

He appealed to Government, through the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service, corporate Ghana, old students and friends of Catholic education to help rebuild Aquinas.
“Let this 75th anniversary not be only a celebration of what Aquinas has achieved. Let it mark the beginning of a new chapter in the physical transformation of Aquinas,” he said.
