Must read

  • Caritas Ghana, the Charity Organisation of the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference, has as part of activities marking five years of existence donated items to its partners a way of appreciation.

Caritas Ghana was launched on Thursday, June 2, 2016 by the then President of Caritas Ghana, the Most Rev. Gabriel Mante of Jasikan Diocese.

The Board Chairman of Caritas Ghana, Very Rev. Fr. Lazarus Anondee donated the items to each of the four partners at a ceremony at the National Catholic Secretariat. The items worth about GHc7, 000 included 7 bags of rice, 12 bottles of 1-littre oil, 5 gallons of liquid soap, 4 veronica buckets and face masks.

The four partners are Shelter Homes which has supported Caritas Ghana over the years with assistance for providing humanitarian service such as anti-trafficking projects, strengthening the criminal justice system response to Human Trafficking in Ghana.

It is worth noting that, the donation exercise towards the partners is the first of the intended activities to be executed by Caritas Ghana to gracefully mark the anniversary.

Caritas Ghana is a Charity Organization of the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference (GCBC) and a member of the global Caritas Confederation. It operates under the National Catholic Secretariat.

Activities and Services of Caritas Ghana are guided by seven thematic areas, namely; Social Development, Livelihood Promotion, Social Services, Promotion of Social & Environmental Justice, Public Policy Advocacy, Promotion of Pro-poor Policies, and Social Research.

As a recall, during the launching in 2016, Bishop Mante stated that Caritas Ghana had been registered and “now a legally recognised Organisation for the Catholic Church in Ghana,” and warned that those who would henceforth breach copyright regulations would have to answer to the relevant authorities in the country.

He reportedly noted that Caritas is a global and credible brand present in nearly 200 countries and territories around the world and has dynamically adopted people-centred initiatives to bring about change in the lives of affected and at risk communities.

“This why the Ghana catholic Bishops’ Conference has taken the steps now to secure and protect the Caritas trade and service mark in Ghana by registering it with the Registrar General Department,” he reportedly explained.

He said the launching of Caritas Ghana does not change the services the Church has been rendering to humanity in the areas of health, education, livelihoods, relief and incomes but introduces a significant change in the standard and quality of these services.
