Donkorkrom Bishop Celebrates Mass Wedding at Maame Krobo

Must read

Within the context of his maiden Pastoral Visit after he was appointed First Bishop of the newly elevated Catholic Diocese of Donkorkrom, in the Eastern Region of Ghana, the Most Rev. John Alphonse Asiedu, SVD, celebrated a mass wedding for four couples at the St. Joseph the Worker Parish, Maame Krobo, on May 23, 2026.

Two among the four couples received the Sacrament of Confirmation during the wedding Mass, which was concelebrated by Rev. Fr. John Armah Koufie, Rev. Fr. Peter Dadzie and Rev. Fr. Bernard Kwabena Amfo, all Assisting Priests at the Parish. The Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Saviour Darkey was unavoidably absent.

The newlywedded couples came from three different Outstations of the St. Joseph the Worker Parish, Maame Krobo: 1 came from Domi, 1 from Kwasi Fante and 2 from the mother Parish.

In a homily during the Mass, the Bishop urged the couples to stick to each other, and love one another with the love of Christ for his Church, underpinning that marriage is a life-long commitment, and must be backed by mutual respect and understanding.

Reflecting further on the Readings, he underlined the purpose of Christian marriage, which is for the couple to come together and become one, just as Christ has given himself to the church in love and become one with her. They should be united in mind and heart, be faithful to one another, and must not allow anything or anyone to come in-between their union.

Acknowledging how challenging marriage life could be sometimes, the prelate encouraged the couples to always fall back to God, who had brought them together. “Know that God is very much interested in you and will not bind you together and move away from you. He accompanies you on the right path. Call out to him, any time you are in distress or in doubt, and trust that He will listen to you; that He will teach you,” he assured.

His Lordship wished the newly wedded the very best in their marriage, and prayed that they may find joy and fulfilment in it, and that their union may be blessed and bare fruits that will last, and will benefit them as couples, their offspring, as well as their entire families.

In gratitude to the Chief Shepherd for choosing their Parish for his first official visit as Bishop of the Diocese and celebrating their wedding, the four couples gifted him with a ram.

There was a second collection by the faithful to support the newly wedded couples.

The Missionary Sisters Servants of the Holy Spirit (SSpS) from Kwasi Fante had spearheaded the decoration of the Church on the eve of this significant occasion.
