New Statue of St. Theresa of Lisieux Unveiled in Accra Archdiocese

Must read

A new statue of St. Theresa of the Child Jesus, affectionately known as St. Theresa of Lisieux or the “Little Flower,” has been officially unveiled as part of the 2026 feast day celebration of the St. Theresa of the Child Jesus Society in the Catholic Archdiocese of Accra.

The ceremony took place at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Adenta, on 3rd October, 2926, where hundreds of Theresians gathered to honour their patron saint and renew their commitment to her spirituality of humility, simplicity, prayer, and charity.

The new statue is rich with specific iconography, where every element carved into her image represents a core pillar of her theology and her promises to the faithful. It will be placed at St. Theresa of the Child Jesus Catholic Church, Gbetsile, for special prayers, novenas, society gatherings, and personal reflection.

Speaking on the significance of the monument, the Grand National President and First Accra Archdiocesan President of the society, Dame Obaapanin Gloria Peggy Kwasie, noted that as the organization has expanded over its 28-year history, the need arose for a larger image to reflect its growing membership and visibility. She explained that the society previously relied on a much smaller statue that no longer suited their larger archdiocesan gatherings.

According to Dame Obaapanin Kwasie, the statue will be central to future events, serving as a constant visual reminder of St. Theresa’s humble and devout way of life.
