President Akufo-Addo Extends Border Closure For Another 2 Wweeks

President Nana Akufo- Addo declared a two more week’s closure of Ghanaian borders following the update of Ghana’s recorded cases of COVID-19.

He announced this when he addressed the nation on “Update to Ghana’s Enhanced response to the coronavirus pandemic” on Sunday, April 5, 2020.

This initiative, according to him, was based on the fact that overpowering the majority of recorded COVID-19 cases came from travelers who entered the country or people who have come in contact with these travelers.

He gave the total number of current confirmed cases as two hundred and fourteen (214) recorded from six regions across the country. Out of the total, Greater Accra recorded the largest number of cases which adds up to one hundred and eighty-nine (189) cases followed by Ashanti Region as the second with the number of twelve (12) confirmed cases.

Ten (10) cases were recorded in the Northern Region, and other regions recorded one (1) case each thus Upper West Region, Eastern Region, and Upper East Region.

The ten confirmed cases recorded in the Northern Region were West African Nationals who entered the country illegally after the closure of our borders.

Out of the total of 214, three persons (3) have fully recovered, forty-nine (49) persons have been discharged from treatment facilities and are being managed from home. One hundred and fifty-five (155) are responding to treatment, two (2) persons are moderately ill and five (5) persons have lost their lives.

The president also gave an update on the travelers who were on mandatory quarantine and tested on their arrival in the country on the 21st and 22nd of March. Out of the total of one thousand and thirty (1,030), seventy-nine (79) initially tested positive and they were isolated for treatment.

Twenty-six also tested positive as a result of their second test after twelve (12) more days of quarantine increasing the number of infected persons to one hundred and five (105). Out of the remaining nine hundred and twenty-five who proved negative after two tests.

Eighty hundred and four (804) have been released while the remaining one hundred and twenty-one (121) are in the process of being released.

He expressed gratitude to their families and loved ones for understanding and co-operating with the straight government procedures deployed in the national interest.
