St. Thomas Aquinas Senior High School is set to launch its 75th anniversary on 2nd October, 2026 at the Christ the King Hall in Cantonments.
The 75th anniversary launch and fundraiser, themed “75 Years of Catholic Education: Shaping Future Leaders Through Integrity and Discipline,” is expected to be attended by special dignitaries, including the Right Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, Speaker of Parliament; Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, Minister of Education; Hon. Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror (OT 90), Clerk to Parliament; Most Rev. John Bonaventure Kwofie, CSSp, Metropolitan Archbishop of Accra and Mr. Frederick Nii Noi Dowuona (OT 90), President of St. Thomas Aquinas Old Boys Association.
According to Rev. Fr. Dr. George Obeng Appah, headmaster of St. Thomas Aquinas Senior High School, the anniversary is more than a celebration of age.
He said, “It is a celebration of a legacy. It is an opportunity to remember those who built and sustained the school, to celebrate the achievements of our old boys and staff, and, importantly, to ask ourselves what kind of Aquinas we want to hand over to the next generation”.
Fr. Appah noted that Catholic education focuses on forming the whole person by combining academic excellence with discipline, integrity, responsibility and service.
“The world our students are entering today makes these values even more important. We need young men who are knowledgeable, but also trustworthy; intelligent, but disciplined; successful, but conscious of their responsibility to society”, he added.
Fr. Appah also noted that the fundraising will serve as an opportunity to raise funds to address ageing facilities and improve teaching and learning conditions.
He noted that the school needs a modern and adequate infrastructure to match the quality of education it wants to provide, adding that “our priorities are improved classroom facilities, an appropriate assembly hall, and other facilities necessary for teaching, learning and student development.”
He therefore called on all stakeholders, including Old Toms, parents, corporate organisations, institutions or individual philanthropists and the general public to support the effort.
He said, “At 75, Aquinas deserves our collective support to renew its infrastructure and strengthen its capacity for the next generation. I therefore appeal to everyone who believes in the Aquinas story to become part of this anniversary; not merely by attending the celebration, but by contributing meaningfully to the future of the school.”
St. Thomas Aquinas Senior High School was established in 1952 by the Catholic Church with the mission of providing quality education rooted in Christian values.
Over the past 75 years, the school has grown into one of Ghana’s respected second-cycle institutions, producing men who have distinguished themselves in education, law, medicine, engineering, business, public service, the Church and many other fields.
