A member of the 92/94 Year Group of the Bishop Herman College Old Boys Union (BHOBU), Mr. Lawrence Adoboe, has urged Science students in Senior High Schools to take their studies extremely serious.

Speaking to Newswatchgh.com on February 12, 2024, he said since Science and Mathematics were perceived to be difficult to study, there was the need for more attention to be given to that area to benefit many people.

Mr. Adoboe, who sponsored one of the prizes at the 70th Anniversary of Our Lady of Apostles (OLA) Senior High School at Ho, however, noted that the difficulty attached to the learning of Science and Mathematics was a “myth”.

Mr. Adoboe donated a cash of GHc1,000 to be awarded to three top final year performers  in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM), Information Communication Technology (ICT) and National Science and Mathematics Quiz (NSMQ).

The theme for the 70th Anniversary was: “Reminiscing 70 years of Holistic Catholic Education: The Role of Stakeholders in Embracing Technology and Entrepreneurship for the Future.

He told Newswatcgh.com that the award had come stay in OLA Girls and he would ensure it is sustained to promote Science and Mathematics.

He said he would also be instituting same award at his alma mater Bishop Herman College at Kpando this year 2024 to the overall best STEM (ICT NSMQ & Robotics) final year student of BIHECO as his support to science education.

Mr. Adoboe said “With Science and Mathematics background at SHS levels, any student can branch into any career and discipline at the tertiary levels.”

He stated that “It is easier for Science and Mathematics background students to divert to other courses at the University than for art students, business students, home economics students to branch into main stream science courses and projects post tertiary education.”

He underscored the fact that “many students who study Science and Maths at SHS levels might not necessarily score single digit aggregates but it’s worth the hustle,” adding that “You become more versatile and wider scoped to venture into other fields of human endeavour.”

He told Newswatchgh.com that as an individual, “I will choose science and math over any other discipline any day any time,” hence, advised youngsters to stay focused and study hard, since “the future is bright especially in the current technology space we find ourselves.

Sharing the reasons for sponsoring the award with Newswatcgh.com, Mr. Adoboe said his passion for STEM (ICT, Robotics &NSMQ) development and being a strong advocate in that space was his motivation.

“It’s not for any other reason for example that I am Patron of BHC NSMQ Academy/BHOBU STEM Foundation,” he said, stating, “I am two times International award winner in the Technology (Programming/Coding) and E-commerce space from as way back as 1990.”
