In an inspiring show of faith, love, and unity, the Old Knights and Ladies of the Altar – Teshie, together with friends and well-wishers, have successfully raised GHS 70,000 to support the emergency surgery of 18-year-old Lady Server Akosua Aboama Nkrumah, a devoted Lady of the Altar of Ss. Anne & Joachim Catholic Church, Teshie.
Akosua has been diagnosed with a Brain Tumor which requires urgent surgical intervention.
Upon hearing the news, members of the Old Mass Servers fraternity immediately rallied together, driven by the core values of Faith, Service, and Compassion.
Within days, a fundraising drive was launched across WhatsApp platforms, Facebook, church groups, and personal networks which drew overwhelming donations received from Old Servers in Ghana and the diaspora, current Mass Servers, school children, parishioners, and sympathizers.

Speaking on behalf of the Old Knights and Ladies of the Altar – Teshie, Mr. Robert Dela Mawuenyegah, the fundraising lead expressed profound gratitude to all who have supported Akosua.
He said, “This is what it means to be family. We serve together at the altar, and we stand together in times of need. We thank God for every single person who contributed, shared, and prayed. Our Lady Akosua can now undergo her surgery knowing she is not alone.”
The total cost needed for the surgery is GHS 80,861.00 and the amount raised so far will support the commencement of the surgery.
“We are equally expecting more donations to support her after the surgery,” Mr. Mawuenyegah added.
In an interview with Newswatchgh.com, Mr. Vincent Ahulu, a Patron of KNOLTA Teshie and the National President of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, also commended the former Mass Servers for the initiative.
He said, _“Brothers and Sisters, this is another opportunity for us to come together to set our young sister Akosua free from the yoke of sickness. May this charitable action and assistance become a cup of cold water you offer Sister Akosua because she is a disciple of Christ, and certainly a reward awaits you – (Matt. 10:42). God Bless You.”_
A presentation of the support was done at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in the presence of her parents and some Senior Mass Servers.
This act of charity has also sparked conversations among older Knights and Ladies of the Altar about forming a more structured welfare support system for altar servers and vulnerable young people in our Church.
The Old Knights and Ladies of the Altar have, over the years, been quietly supporting Young Mass Servers through their educational and health needs, and remain committed to continuing this work of service to the young people in our church and society.
The family of Akosua Aboama Nkrumah have expressed their heartfelt appreciation to the Church, individual donors and supporters, and have asked for continued prayers for her speedy recovery.
They added that the gift of a brand new wheelchair for Akosua is a true testament of the love shown by all Mass Servers and their friends.
“Whatever you did for the least of these, you did for me.” – Matthew 25:40
