Must read

Caritas Ghana has outlined activities leading to the official launch of its maiden Caritas Week Celebration slated from November 8 to 15,  2026.

The activities were outlined by Nereous Daguah, Programmes Officer of Caritas Ghana, during a media briefing on Caritas Week 2026 held on Tuesday, October 20, 2026 at the National Catholic Secretariat, Accra.

According to him, the media briefing forms part of the initial engagements to enlist the support of media partners in promoting the vision and mission of Caritas Ghana ahead of the celebration.

He disclosed that in the coming weeks, Caritas Ghana will roll out intensive sensitization and public education across all Dioceses, Parishes and Catholic institutions to create awareness about Caritas Week and its significance.

Mr. Daguah said Caritas Ghana will distribute communication and formation materials including posters, parish announcements, and the Schools and Youth Kit to facilitate education and participation at all levels.

He emphasized the strategic role of Catholic schools in the celebration, noting that schools will be encouraged to hold special assemblies, reflections and catechesis on charity, as well as undertake simple acts of charity in their communities.

At the diocesan and parish levels, he said Diocesan Development Officers and Caritas volunteers will lead sensitization sessions, community engagements and mobilization activities ahead of the official launch.

The official launch of Caritas Week will take place on Sunday, November 8, 2026 across all Dioceses, marking the beginning of a week-long observance featuring prayers for the poor and vulnerable, education on the works of Caritas, outreach programmes and voluntary service.

The celebration will climax on Sunday, 15th November 2026, which is Caritas Sunday and World Day of the Poor, with a National Caritas Collection in all Catholic Churches to support the humanitarian and development work of the Church.

The maiden edition is being held on the theme “The Lord is the refuge of the poor” (cf. Ps 14:6), with the campaign line “A refuge for the poor: love in action.”
