Dumega Bernard Wisdom Quarshie, former National Management Council Chairperson of the Alakple Development Association, has been honoured with the prestigious St. Gregory the Great Papal Award in recognition of his immense contributions to the growth and development of the Catholic Church in the Catholic Diocese of Ho.
The honour, conferred by the Vatican through the Catholic Church, recognises Dumega Quarshie’s unwavering dedication, commitment and distinguished service to the Church over the years, particularly in advancing the mission and development of the local Church within the Diocese.
With this Papal honour, he would now prefix his name with SIR.
The recognition was bestowed during a solemn Eucharistic celebration held at the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Ho, as part of the pastoral visit of the Apostolic Nuncio to Ghana, Most Rev. Julien Kaboré.
The colourful ceremony brought together clergy, religious and lay faithful from across the Diocese to celebrate individuals whose lives of service have significantly impacted the Church and society.

Sir Dumega Quarshie, widely respected for his leadership and commitment to community development, was among four distinguished lay faithful of the Diocese honoured with papal recognition for their steadfast devotion to the Catholic faith and dedicated service to humanity.
The St. Gregory the Great Papal Award, one of the highest honours bestowed upon lay Catholics, is reserved for individuals who have demonstrated exemplary service to the Church and society through commitment, sacrifice and faithful witness.
The honour accorded to Dumega Bernard Wisdom Quarshie is seen as a testament to his longstanding contributions to the spiritual and developmental growth of the Church, as well as his continued dedication to the welfare of his community.

Present at the ceremony to celebrate and support the distinguished honouree were Togbi Amey Zegu II, Dufia of Alakple, Dumega M.P. Dagbui, Dumega Augustine Kudese, Tobokor Amuzu Atiatorme, Agbotadua Fianu Peter, Mr. Frank Dagbui , Chairman of the National Management Council, and Rev. Fr. Ruben Awuye, among other dignitaries and Parishioners of St Joseph Quasi Catholic Church, Alakple.
Sir Dumega Quarshie’s recognition has been widely welcomed by parishioners, associates and members of the wider Catholic community, who view the honour as richly deserved and an inspiration to others to serve selflessly.
