Ghana’s Prez Mahama Announces Centenary Village Plan for Assemblies of God’s 100th Anniversary

Must read

The President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E John Dramani Mahama has announced plans for a centenary village to support major religious gatherings as the Assemblies of God, Ghana, prepares to mark its 100th anniversary in 2031.

Addressing the closing ceremony of the World Assemblies of God Congress in Accra on Friday, October 16, 2026, President Mahama said the proposed facility would include an auditorium capable of hosting 10,000 people, alongside other conference facilities.

He explained that the development would enable the church to host major international religious gatherings without relying on facilities belonging to other organisations.

“From 2031, it won’t happen again,” the President said, expressing confidence that the proposed facility would address the church’s current challenges in hosting large gatherings.

President Mahama stressed that the project would not depend on government funding.

“Not one cedi of government of Ghana will be used for this,” he declared, adding that he would lead fundraising efforts for the initiative.

He said he is prepared to solicit financial support from communities and other stakeholders to help realise the vision.

The President urged the church to begin preparations early, cautioning that the five years leading to the centenary could pass quickly.

“In five years, we’ll be in 2031. The Assemblies of God in Ghana will be 100 years,” he said.

He also invited international delegates who attended the congress to return to Ghana for the centenary celebration.
